Ik R.I.P.

About death and self-representation on the internet. And Beyond was part of the workshop: Coffin for your Beloved.

A coffin with poetic ribbons, graffiti or textile? A robe or something more conceptual? As part of the Ik RIP exhibition on death and self-representation Mediamatic is organizing workshops for surviving relatives. Family and friends work together with an artist of their choice to design a coffin

The workshop of And Beyond is aimed at working together on a shroud for the deceased. On this shroud drawings will be applied with stitches, as a final farewell and in memory of the beloved.

We’re part of the Red Light Fashion Amsterdam, innitiated by HTNK and the city of A’dam.

The project originates from a collaboration between the municipality of Amsterdam, NV Stadsgoed and HTNK, consultancy and recruitment agency of the fashion industry. In order to redevelop the centre, NV Stadsgoed bought several brothels. For the period of one year these buildings will be loaned to Dutch fashion design talents and used as shop-windows, workshops and living areas.

De Modebelofte

And Beyond was responsible for the concept and design for the exhibition ‘de Modebelofte’ during the Dutch Design Week in the CBK De Krabbendans in Eindhoven.

The exibition showed the work of 12 of the most promissing graduate fashion students of 2007. We made the presentation in collaboration with HTNK, the graphicdesign agency No Office was responsible for the visual communication.

The concept of the exhibition was based on the theme of ‘the promise’.
The audience could view the work through peepholes in an abstract, lifesize look-through box placed in the middle of the space. Walking around this box the audience could view the inside space through 12 holes and catch a glimps of the work of one of the 12 students. The pulsing lights inside the box forced the audience to wait until the work appeared from the dark for just a brief moment. These brief moments of visability, combined with the fact that sometimes only details would show, created a concentrated focus with the aim to intrigue the audience.
